Scripture Set to Song: Psalm 91 Plus Jesus’ Words – Keys for God’s Protection

I put these Scriptures to song to help me meditate on Psalm 91––to sow its promises into my heart, and to ground myself in the “if’s” needed to unlock these promises. I added some of Jesus’ teachings that affirm what this psalm speaks of, connecting the Old and New Testaments.

(Words below that are poetic repetition are italicized.)

Psalm 91 – Plus John 14:23 and John 16:33

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD,
He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee
from the snare of the fowler,
and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers,
and under his wings shalt thou trust:
under his wings shalt thou trust:
his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

I will say of the LORD,
He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.

Thou shalt not be afraid
for the terror by night;
Thou shalt not be afraid
nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Thou shalt not be afraid
nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness;
Thou shalt not be afraid
nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Thou shalt not be afraid.

A thousand shall fall at thy side,
and ten thousand at thy right hand;
but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold
and see the reward of the wicked.

I will say of the LORD,
He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.

Because thou hast made the LORD,
which is my refuge,
even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
to keep thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands,
They shall bear thee up in their hands,
lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:
the young lion and the dragon
shalt thou trample under feet.

I will say of the LORD,
He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.

Because he hath set his love upon me,
therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high,
because he hath known my name.

He shall call upon me,
and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him,
and shew him my salvation.

Because thou hast made the LORD ... thy habitation;
Because he hath set his love upon me,
Because he hath known my name.
Thou shalt not be afraid.

Jesus answered and said unto him,
If a man love me, he will keep my words:
and my Father will love him,
and we will come unto him,
and make our abode with him.
John 14:23
Because he hath set his love upon me,
Because thou hast made the LORD ... thy habitation;

[Jesus said,] These things I have spoken unto you,
that in me, in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation:
but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
Thou shalt not be afraid.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD,
He is my refuge and my fortress:
My God; in him will I trust.
My God; in him will I trust.
My God; in him will I trust.
in him will I trust.
in him will I trust.
